Shipwrecker was originally conceived as a one-off recording project organised by guitarist Jo Barnes, who wanted to capture the energy and spontaneity of his occasional jam sessions with drummer, Eve, and bassist Adam.
A singer was needed, and Matt was drafted in at the last minute. Despite never having met the rest of the band before entering the studio, everything clicked, and the band released what became known as the “Elevator Sessions” EP, which was picked up by, and received airplay on Radio Caroline. Ticking a bucket list item off for the quartet.
Energised by their success, the quartet reunited to record another EP, again recorded live in a weekend. Then, in 2019, the band played their first live show to a sold out crowd at the Kazimier Stockroom in Liverpool, and the seeds were planted to turn this occasional side-project into something more ambitious.
Work began on their début album, and one pandemic-enforced break later, Shipwrecker have now found their signature sound, having spent time honing and refining their songwriting process, the band are ready to take the next step with a full length release of catchy up-beat pop infused rock.
